Does QR menu ordering actually work in Pakistani restaurants?
QR menu ordering works well in casual dining, cafés and high-turnover restaurants where guests are comfortable with smartphones and the main constraint is server availability. It works poorly in fine dining, where the service itself is part of what people are paying for, and in venues with an older or less phone-comfortable clientele.
It is a tool with a real fit, not an upgrade every restaurant should make. Deciding honestly which side you fall on saves an expensive disappointment.
What is QR ordering, exactly?
A code sits on the table. The guest scans it with their phone camera, the menu opens in a browser, they choose what they want, and the order lands in your system against that table.
The critical detail is that last part. The order arrives attached to the table, and fires a Kitchen Order Ticket exactly as if a server had punched it at the terminal. The kitchen does not know or care where it came from. There is no separate screen, no re-keying, no parallel system.
If a QR system requires someone to read orders off a tablet and re-enter them into the POS, it is not integrated — it is a digital notepad, and it adds a step rather than removing one.
Where does it genuinely help?
When servers are the bottleneck. At peak, guests wait not because the kitchen is slow but because nobody has come to take their order. QR removes that queue entirely — twenty tables can order simultaneously.
On repeat orders. The second round of drinks, an extra naan, dessert. These are the orders that require flagging someone down and are most likely to be abandoned. Removing the friction sells more.
For accuracy. The guest chooses their own modifiers. Nobody mishears "no onions" across a noisy room.
During staff shortages. A dining room that needs six servers can run acceptably with four if ordering is self-service.
For menu changes. Updating a QR menu is a change in the system. Reprinting physical menus is a print run and a delay.
Where does it fall flat?
Fine dining. If a guest is paying for an experience, being handed a phone screen instead of a server is a downgrade. The service is the product.
Older clientele. A significant portion of guests will not scan, will not want to, and should not be made to feel awkward about it. QR has to be an option alongside normal service, never a replacement.
Poor connectivity. The guest's own data connection has to work. In a basement restaurant with weak signal and no guest WiFi, scanning produces a spinning loader and an irritated customer.
Large group orders. One person ordering for eight people is faster with a server writing it down than with someone tapping through a menu on a phone while seven people call out changes.
Upselling. A good server sells the dessert. A menu screen does not, at least not nearly as well.
The honest position is that QR should sit alongside table service, not replace it. Restaurants that force it lose more than they save.
Does it save money?
Sometimes, but rarely in the way people expect.
The saving is not "fewer servers". It is more orders taken per server, faster table turnover, and fewer abandoned second rounds. A restaurant that turns tables 10% faster during a two-hour peak has meaningfully increased capacity without hiring or expanding.
Where it does not save money is in venues that are not capacity-constrained. If your tables are half empty, faster ordering does not help — the constraint is demand, not throughput.
How does it fit with the rest of the system?

What about the internet?
The till is offline-first — service continues without a connection, with a 15-day offline window on Professional.
QR ordering is the exception worth stating plainly: it needs connectivity, because the guest's phone has to reach your system. If your internet is down, servers take orders at the terminal as normal and the kitchen keeps working, but the QR path will not function until the connection returns.
That is a reasonable trade. It just means QR should be an enhancement to a working service model, not the only way orders can be taken.
The realistic answer
QR ordering works if your constraint is server availability, your guests are phone-comfortable, and your connectivity is reliable. It works badly if service is your differentiator or your clientele would rather talk to a person.
Run it as an option, not a mandate. Keep servers taking orders for anyone who prefers it. Measure whether your tables actually turn faster before concluding it worked.
