Offline-first POS

The internet goes down. Your counter doesn't

Most “offline” POS software is a website with a cache — when the connection dies, so does your checkout. POSFORRETAIL installs the whole system on your machine, so selling offline isn't a fallback mode. It's just how it runs.

How it works

Why it keeps working when nothing else does

1

The whole system runs on your machine

This is not a website with a cache. The desktop app installs the full application and its own database on your till. When the internet dies, nothing has to "fall back" — you were already running locally the entire time.

2

Every sale is on disk before it is anywhere else

A sale is committed to the database on your own hardware the moment you take payment. It is not held in browser memory waiting for a network call, so a dropped connection cannot lose it.

3

Reconnect and it catches itself up

When the line returns, the till pulls down what changed on the cloud and pushes up everything you sold — automatically, in both directions. Documents carry their own identity, so nothing is double-counted no matter how many times a sync retries.

The honest list

What works offline — and what doesn't

Every POS says “works offline”. Almost none tells you where the line is. Here is ours.

Works offline
  • Ring up sales

Full checkout, no internet needed. Sales are written to the database on your own machine before anything touches the network.

  • Print receipts

The print agent runs locally on the till and talks straight to your thermal printer.

  • Scan barcodes

Your product catalogue lives on the machine, so lookups never wait on a server.

  • Take cash & card tender

Both are recorded offline. Note: card means recording the tender — the card machine itself is your bank’s, not ours.

  • Customer khata (credit)

Attach a customer, post credit, see balances — all local. Ledgers reconcile on the cloud when you sync.

  • Stock, purchases & GRN

Receive goods, adjust stock, move it between locations. Stock movements post locally and travel up on sync.

  • Reports

Sales and stock reports run against the local database, so they work at full speed with the line down.

Needs a connection
  • Accounting & GL

Journals, chart of accounts and statements are cloud-only. Your offline sales still produce correct journals — they are posted when the till syncs.

  • Expenses & bank reconciliation

Entered on the web app, not the till.

  • Adding users, branches or products

Set up on the cloud, then pulled down to every till.

  • First-time setup & activation

Installing and activating a till needs a connection once. After that it can go dark for the length of your offline window.

How long can you stay dark?

Your plan sets how long a till runs without reaching us. Touch the internet at any point and the clock resets — in day-to-day use you will never see the edge of it.
